Triple Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endures a 'gut-wrenching' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "devastating" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury late in the first half following an inadvertent collision with fellow Nugget Jones.
His teammate came down on the foot of the big man, and he instantly collapsed to the court clutching his knee.
The 30-year-old, who tops the league season in rebounds and assists, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the contest prior to incurring the problem.
Jokic will undergo an scan on the following day to evaluate the extent of the injury.
"Right away, Jokic knew something was wrong," said Denver head coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Any player who is injured, it's difficult, especially somebody as important as he is. More information will come on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust as a team. Obviously, right now, I'm more concerned just about Jokic personally and the disappointment of facing something like that."
