Tracking a Venezuelan-affiliated Vessel 'Pursued' by the US Coast Guard

The distinctive yellow-fronted apartment block visible behind assisted us locate the footage.

We are analyzing images and video shared this morning that show the scene of a reported car bomb explosion that Russian officials say killed a high-ranking soldier in Moscow.

Officials in Russia confirmed that Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov was in the car that detonated and that he later died of his wounds. A probe is under way.

Our starting point to verify the site from which the images were from was based on posts indicating the blast happened on Yasenevaya Street in the southern district of the Russian capital.

Our analysis employed street-view imagery on Google Maps and the local mapping service Yandex to match the distinctive yellow colour of a nearby residential complex captured in the video.

Locating additional buildings, streetlights and the street layout verified the exact location the footage were captured.

Additionally, we verified that the videos were recent and that the visuals had not been digital alteration.
