Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is taking legal action against the makers of acetaminophen, claiming the corporations withheld potential risks that the pain reliever presented to pediatric brain development.

The court filing arrives a month after President Donald Trump promoted an unsubstantiated connection between consuming Tylenol - also known as acetaminophen - throughout gestation and autism spectrum disorder in young ones.

Paxton is filing suit against Johnson & Johnson, which previously sold the drug, the only pain reliever recommended for women during pregnancy, and Kenvue, which now manufacturers it.

In a statement, he claimed they "deceived the public by profiting off of pain and pushing pills ignoring the potential hazards."

The manufacturer asserts there is insufficient reliable data linking Tylenol to autism spectrum disorder.

"These corporations lied for decades, deliberately risking numerous people to increase profits," the attorney general, from the Republican party, stated.

The company said in a statement that it was "very worried by the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of paracetamol and the potential impact that could have on the well-being of US mothers and children."

On its website, the company also stated it had "regularly reviewed the relevant science and there is lacking reliable evidence that demonstrates a verified association between using paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Organizations acting on behalf of medical professionals and medical practitioners concur.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has said paracetamol - the primary component in acetaminophen - is a restricted selection for expectant mothers to address discomfort and fever, which can present major wellness concerns if ignored.

"In over twenty years of investigation on the use of acetaminophen in pregnancy, zero credible investigations has definitively established that the use of paracetamol in any trimester of gestation causes neurodevelopmental disorders in children," the group stated.

The lawsuit mentions latest statements from the previous government in claiming the drug is reportedly hazardous.

Recently, Trump generated worry from health experts when he told expectant mothers to "struggle intensely" not to use Tylenol when ill.

The FDA then published an announcement that physicians should consider limiting the usage of Tylenol, while also mentioning that "a causal relationship" between the medication and autism spectrum disorder in children has not been proven.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who supervises the FDA, had pledged in April to conduct "comprehensive study program" that would identify the source of autism spectrum disorder in a matter of months.

But authorities cautioned that finding a sole reason of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the consequence of a intricate combination of genetic and external influences - would not be simple.

Autism is a category of lifelong neurodivergence and disability that influences how persons encounter and engage with the surroundings, and is recognized using medical professional evaluations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - a Trump ally who is running for US Senate - claims the manufacturer and J&J "intentionally overlooked and attempted to silence the science" around paracetamol and autism.

The case aims to force the corporations "destroy any promotional materials" that asserts acetaminophen is reliable for expectant mothers.

The court case echoes the concerns of a collection of guardians of minors with autism and ADHD who sued the producers of acetaminophen in recently.

Judicial authorities threw out the legal action, stating studies from the plaintiffs' authorities was not conclusive.
