Shock as Renowned South African DJ Gunned Down in the City of Johannesburg.

A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the forty-year-old media personality was accosted by a trio of assailants, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.

The purpose behind the incident remains unclear and no arrests have been made, police said.

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a building close to the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the property supervising the setup of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, according to reports.

"Authorities believe the victim was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," an official report stated.

Security camera video showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what appeared to be a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the attack.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and investigators have been following their trail to establish their destination," stated a police chief.

"I am in shock. I am shattered," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were prepared to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."
