Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
