It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

A Significant Return to Panem

Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their roles will take the form of a future-set scene, considering the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.

This represents the sixth film in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's story are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several notable actors in pivotal roles:

• Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

In other news, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the filming timeline:

1. Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.
