Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed murders, double-crosses, serious side-eye, and an unforgettable incident that pierced the overwhelming suspense.

Yet on the final evening, the final winner of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors was revealed.

Out of nineteen participants, just a handful remained: Deceivers and faithfuls facing off for the winnings.

Before long, the field narrowed to just three: the remaining contestants.

Ultimately, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the winner, in a shocking result that went viral and made him tearful.

"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he declared, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been a traitor. "I feel terrible about this."

"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."

Social media quickly erupted with the news. "Most awful traitor ever being the best traitor ever," commented one user.

"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," wrote a different person, while someone else called it "the television highlight of the year."

The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep all the prize money, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.

The comedian's evolution from giggle liability to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the series.

But his win still left the nation surprised, as noted by entertainment reporters.

"The thought of him, among everyone, executing a masterclass in deceit felt just as probable as him keeping composure through one of his own punchlines."

During follow-up conversations, fellow players summed up why no one had truly doubted him.

"Alan could have come down to the morning meal in traitor attire and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. His humor distracted me," a player said.

"The majority didn't target him because how does one vote for someone who is so charming?" asked a different contestant.

Carr said he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the program.

"I want to do it again... I don't think it would work again!"

The final installment was extended to over an hour on the network. It had an unusual opening than typical episodes, as every celebrity were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.

Viewers heard some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as we recapped key scenes from every remaining player's experience in the game.

As ever, Alan Carr provided some of the most memorable lines.

"Let's face it, I began the competition as something of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed close allies under the bus, I've murdered national treasures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and traitor than I believed."

At the same time, another contestant noted that being in the final was "significantly more pressure than playing for England", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.

Early on in the episode, several players appeared to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the castle, taking over from an earlier departed fashionable contestant.

The winner appeared at the morning meal resembling a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.

However, he got outstyled by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.

Following this was the challenge, with the remaining contestants getting on board a train named - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.

The challenge involved destroying portraits of former contestants. Spare a thought for one participant who was hit in the head THREE times by the lid of a substantial container.

Before long, the moment arrived for the roundtable.

The deceivers did a pinky promise in advance, vowing to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I won't throw him under a bus," stated a player, while their partner simply laughed.

And one adhered to his promise. But, having slipped unnoticed for most of the game, their partner still got the most votes.

The last deceiver looked like to be experiencing significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."

Online platforms and viewers were similarly upset.

"I did NOT want this contestant to be banished. An endearing deceiver," said an observer.

"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," posted another user.

However, there remained no time to dwell on this departure. Before long, they were at the final stage - which was the moment everyone anticipated.

The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance broke down, precisely when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.

One contestant was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their partner, who turned against them.

"This pains me to be stabbed in the back last minute like that," said the ousted contestant. Subsequently, it was revealed that when they message, the betrayed player refers to the other by a betrayer's name.

Finally, just three players were still competing: the final trio.

One player, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the competition. So did a different player, and everything depended on the final participant, who did the same - which meant that the deceiver emerged victorious.

For observers, the moment where the other players consoled the winner was "compelling television". "I predict it will be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they said.

Fortunately, the winner quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and was able to enjoy his victory.

"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and here I am the champion," the winner said.

He also made light of the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by leaning toward the host in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.

"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.

The last few weeks of famous people scheming, scheming and the occasional surprising incidents may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
