Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Down by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the anticipated World Series.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, the nation," Springer stated, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now connected for 23 total October home runs, placing him third all-time trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of anyone else anywhere that I'd prefer in that situation other than Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the early in the series, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a World Series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he added.

The Blue Jays secured the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
