Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the soft-colored suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry says farewell to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
